About us

Who we are

From a village women’s association to a registered regional organisation.

Our story

NWEO was rebranded in 2024 through the merger of women-led structures across the Nuba Mountains and was registered by the Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SRRA) on 19 January 2026.

It traces its roots to the Nuba Mountains Women Association, founded in 1986 in Kanyalo village by women, many without formal education, who organised to protect the rights of women and children during a time of abductions, killings and forced marriage.

After the 2002 women’s conference, the Regional Nuba Women Organization opened officially in 2003 with its head office in Kauda and sub-offices in the counties.
